Analysis of 9 shots from Art of The Title Sequence - Amy Nicole Fitzpatrick

Coraline

The art of the title sequence is a website about title sequences. On it, there are sequences of screen grabs from the title sequences of lots of movies.
The title sequence that appeals to me is the sequence from the movie Coraline.

Coraline is a fantasy/horror children's film that was originally a novel written by Neil Gaiman. It is about a young girl called Coraline who finds a secret world through a door in her new house. it this dual world she discovers her second family, In particular her 'other mother. At first the second world seems better and more apealing for coraline, until she discovers the deep arksecre behind her other mother, the second world, and the lost chilren trapped with her.
The title sequence shots show the stages of a doll being made, which the style of them is how the characters in the film look. The 1st image shows the offical title of Coraline which is advertised. the 4th image shows the doll gettin button eyes sewed in, which is a key part of the film, as coralines other mother wants to sew in button eyes for coraline so she can stay trapped with her forever.
In Images 4 - 9 there is also titles places on top in white font of key actors/directors/writers and producers. Most of the shots are extreme close ups of the process of making the doll, for example number 6, where we can see the scissors cutting the thread being sewed into the doll, which looks like the process of creating coraline.
This title sequence apeals to be because in ways it symoblises what the film is really about without giving to much away as the shots are not actually taken from parts of the actual movie, whilst at the same time appears to be quite creepy, which the film is in itself, even though it is a childrens film.
