Analysis of 9 shots from Art of The Title Sequence - Bradley Peppett

The Incredible Hulk.

http://www.artofthetitle.com/ is a website which contains hundreds of movie title sequences. On the website it contains screen grabs from particular movies (above as an example). I have chosen to use The Incredible Hulk, a great example of a popular movie/character amongst millions across the world. It can be seen here:

Dr. Bruce Banner, thanks to a gamma ray experiment gone wrong, transforms into a giant green-skinned creature whenever he is made angry and his pulse rate becomes too high. Meanwhile, a soldier uses the same technology to become an evil version of the original.

The first image we see above is what looks to be some sort of x ray with the production company's names across it. A x ray effect may have been used as it relates to the film, being a scientific experiment gone wrong, and x rays relating to science experiments. Green bold capitalised text is used for the company's name, whereas the word "and" is not in bold. This may represent the importance of the company's names. Also, this type of text has been used as the main character 'The Hulk' is a large green monster and stands out.

The next image we see is the title. "HULK" has been capitalised and made much bigger than the rest of the text. This represents the size of 'The Hulk', standing tall and wider than everything else. "THE INCREDIBLE" has also been capitalised and put in green to represent 'The Hulk'. The background also looks to be in an eye shape, with blinding light coming from them. Seeing this represents mysterious and powerful, as we cannot see what it is and how blinding it is.

In the 3rd image, we can see the main character, Bruce, sitting in what looks to be a secured Science laboratory. This is important as this shows how the main character came across such an unusual side effect.

The next image shows an extreme close up of his eyes while the experiment is happening. This shows the main character as strong. He is looking with an expression which makes him look as if he is not scared and confident that the experiment will be a success.

The next 2 images look to be flash backs. They look as if they are flashbacks because of the effects used. Everything seems to be blurred and out of place, this usually means a flashback is being made and trying to remember how everything happend.

The next 2 images show a woman in hospital and what looks to be a police form with evidence taken down. These relate together as it could have been an attack that is currently being investigated.

The final image shows characters and details about the producers etc. The text used for the names of people are in bold green capitalised text, whereas the headings are not made bold. This once again is showing the most important parts, the names of the people. Using black and white images in the background also makes it seem as the green is the most important part, as it is in colour and the rest isn't. Green is the main character, which shows the main character 'The Hulk' as being powerful and important.

This title sequence particularly appealed to me due to the amount of power they show with the green text being used. They haven't even introduced 'The Hulk' but by using all these techniques you almost know the important and power that he has, so when he is finally introduced you know straight away that he is powerful.
