Skills Audit: Filmining and Editing Preliminary Match Cut Exercise - Amy Nicole Fitzpatrick

After Planning and storyboarding my match cut film, my group then had to film it, from which we ended up with clips. We Then exported these files into final cut pro then edited the clips so they matched up and the clips became a short film, showing a person going into a room and engaging in conversation with somebody eles. The final Clip was then imported into soundtrack, where we made a sound clip to fit our film, using the various sounds in the soundtrack pro library. We added a siren half way during the clip, as the security guard is allerted to remove the woman from the building. We also added a thump at the end of the sequence as the man bangs his head on the floor to add impact of his head hitting against the hard floor. My group also created a soundtrack as the film starts to build up to the frame where the woman and the man first meet.We were unable to add titles however while editing as there was a problem with Livetype while we where trying to add titles after importing our film into it.

Planning Preliminary match cut exercise including storyboarding - Amy Nicole Fitzpatrick

Our group was given the task to carry out a match cut exercise whereby we make a short film which involves a person walking into a room, sitting down and then engaging in conversation with another character.

My group decided that we would do our match cut exercise about credit card fraud. The clip features a character walking down the hall into a room, where she is met by a security guard who requires a password, and then is let in. She then sits down and engages in conversation with a man who has a large briefcase filled with credit cards, which is given to the woman. However, she does not seem too pleased with the cards and tension between the two breaks out, which results in the man getting angry and having the woman dragged out and removed from the building, leading to him having a heart attack due to the stress of what has just occured.

This Is The Storyboard For Our match cut exercise.

Final Edit of Prelim Exercise with Livetype and Sound filming practice

In Our groups we were required to do a sound, editing and filming practice, which involved a bag swap. This Is The Final Edit Of Our filming, sound and livetype practice.

Skills Audit: Livetype and Sound - Amy Nicole Fitzpatrick

In our lesson we were taught how to use the programs livetype and soundtrack, which are two programs used to add titles to film clips, and the other program is used to create a sountrack which can also be used to add to our film clips.

Livetype

This is a screen shot of the program livetype.
Livetype can be used to add words and titles to a film clip using the timeline at the bottom. In our lesson we also learned how livetype's fonts can be changed and the various effects that can be used to alter texts such as the way the words come in to the screen, the way the word comes off the screen such as fades, or disolves, and whether the text moves around while it is on the screen, for example distorted text. This program will be useful along with final cut pro when making our final thrillers so we can add titles to our opening sequences.

Soundtrack Pro

This is a screen shot from the Soundtrack pro program, which is used to add and created your own music track, sound effects e.c.t to be used with the film clip you make. in the soundtrack tutorial i learned how to import videos into soundtrack to create tracks and also how to export sound to be used in final cut pro. the timeline is important as it allows you to time at what point music starts and stops at each point of the clip. i also learned how to lower/highten the volume of one sound input at a particular time. On the right hand side of the screen there is a search box which can be used to find a tye of music/instrument or sound effect that you may want to use to add affect to the clip. Sound is important in a thriller because it acts as a way to help speed up tension or pace, allong with editing.

In Our groups we were required to do a sound, editing and filming practice, which involved a bag swap. We First Filmed Our bag swap scences, from which we ended up with 18 clips. We Then exported these files into final cut pro then edited the clips so they matched up and the clips became a short film.

The final Clip was then imported into soundtrack, where we made a sound clip to fit our film, using the various sounds in the soundtrack pro library.

After this was done, our film clip along with the newly added sound was imported into Livetype where we then added titles. The Whole film, which includes the footage, sound and titles was then imported again into final cut pro where we put everything together and saved it.Doing this practice gave my group experiance for when we go to make our final thrillers as we now know how to edit our clips, and also what to avoid when doing the real thing, in order to avoid any mistakes.
